Animals in Research
The Texas Society for Biomedical Research (TSBR), representing academic,  medical and research institutions in Texas, is dedicated to the improvement of health and well being for all life through advances in biomedical research.  Animals are essential for biomedical research.  Research in animals offers the best hope of finding the cause, treatment, and prevention for many diseases that inflict pain, disability, and death on both humans and animals.

Studies in animals are necessary to expand biomedicine’s ability to help those  in need.  Animals as well benefit directly from the findings of biomedical research.  There are now animal vaccines and treatments for many animal diseases. Animals must continue to play a vital role in medical research.  Life expectancy has increased because of advances in the last few decades.  The future holds more promise for improved health of both humans and animals.

Biomedical animal research conducted in accordance with federal, state, and  local laws and regulations is supported by the TSBR.

Respect for the humane care and judicious use of animals in research is of  importance to the TSBR and scientists across Texas.  Implicit in this respect is that the animals are legally acquired, receive the highest standards for their care, and that their welfare remains important in the quest for new scientific knowledge and contributions to humanity.
